Make the protagonist your own

Character customization is part of the current Steam description. The June 5 development update provides a more detailed look at the planned appearance options, explaining how the team builds a customized character into an isometric, hand-animated world. These are announcement-era figures, not a count obtained from a final character creator.

The appearance options announced in June

The developers list several different dimensions of customization. Keep the categories separate: a hairstyle is not the same thing as a hair color, and wearable items are not a count of complete character presets.

Why every appearance choice needs animation

The update describes handmade pixels and animations, with appearances needing to work in as many as eight directions. It explains that wearable items are animated across many sprite sheets so they can appear in varied character actions. That production detail explains why clothing and hair are part of the game’s visual identity, rather than a portrait-only choice. It does not tell us exactly when the player can change each option.

Appearance and story identity are different questions

The September retrospective identifies Dara as the player character; that background is documented in the character directory. An announced appearance system does not, on its own, establish whether the character’s name, pronouns or story role can be changed. This page covers the appearance categories described in the June update rather than filling those separate questions with assumptions.

When can you change your look?

The sources used here confirm customization but do not provide a tested sequence for reopening it, purchasing outfits or changing appearance later in a playthrough. Treat instructions for those actions as a separate future guide. The release page tracks access to the game, while gameplay explains how the protagonist’s daily life connects to the town.

Meet the people around your character

Once you understand the appearance system, continue to characters for public introductions and relationships for the announced social systems. Those pages distinguish the cast’s announced size from the characters whose individual details have actually been documented.
